US$ 25 million ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup set for launch

The ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup tournament worth US$ 25 million over the next five years is set for mega launch this Wednesday in Harare with all top-flight men’s and women’s teams along lower division sides invited.
This will be the biggest contest ever in both size and financial investment in the history football in Zimbabwe and also one of the biggest in Africa right now.
President Mnangagwa is the principal sponsor and will officially unveil the tournament himself. US$ 5 million will be injected every year for the next five years, and there is also a huge chance that the contest will be renewed thereafter.
Men’s Premier Soccer League teams and their women’s counterparts alongside lower division clubs up to the Area Zones will all participate in this massive tournament. It will also cater for Beach Soccer and, Futsal alongside the juniors. “It’s a massive project,” said ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi.
Winners of this tournament at senior men’s level will pick the ticket to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup. With the coming of this tournament, the calendar will be packed, and there will be more and more midweek fixtures across categories.
