Manchester City produced a dominant performance to eliminate Liverpool from the FA Cup on Saturday, securing a convincing 4-0 win in a quarter-final clash played at Etihad Stadium.
Erling Haaland was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick to guide Pep Guardiola’s side into the semi-finals for a record eighth consecutive time.
City took control late in the first half when Haaland converted a penalty after Virgil van Dijk brought down Nico O’ Reilly in the box. The Norwegian striker added a second just before the break, putting his sidee in a commanding position.
The pressure continued after halftime, with Antoine Semenyo extending the lead before Haaland completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish to seal the victory for Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool struggled to respond despite creating early chances. Mohamed Salah missed a penalty, adding to what had already been a disappointing outing for the visitors.
The result was one of Liverpool’s heaviest FA Cup defeats in decades and raises further questions about their current form under coach Arne Slot.
Meanwhile, for Manchester City, the win comes at the back of Carabao cup final victory where they beat current league leaders Arsenal to secure their first silverware of the season.
