Contemporary musician Baba Troy (real name Mike Pangiwa) has revealed that his box-office song Shungu Dzemoyo that sent shockwaves across the musical divide three years ago was based on a true story.
He said he lost his mother when he was still a toddler and the song is a dedication to her.
“I think my mother heard the song wherever she is and helped it become popular,” he said.
“I wasn’t sure whether it would be popular or not when I released it. I thought if it would be popular, it wouldn’t be the level it then hit.
“That’s why I keep on saying the one the song (his mother) was dedicated to is the one who helped make it popular from wherever she is.”
Baba Troy, who gained notoriety after appearing to be undermining the mega popular Jah Prayzah in a radio interview at the height of his own popularity is currently finalising his latest single which is coming out with a video.
Both are expected to be released soon.
