ENGLAND DEALT MAJOR WORLD CUP BLOW AS TINO LIVRAMENTO RULED OUT WITH CALF INJURY

By Luckybets Media Team

England have suffered a significant setback on the eve of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign after defender Tino Livramento was ruled out of the tournament with a calf injury and replaced by Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah.

The decision comes just one day before England begin their Group Stage opener against Croatia, leaving manager Thomas Tuchel forced into a late reshuffle of his defensive options.

Livramento, who was expected to play a key role due to his ability to operate on both flanks of defence, had been preparing for what would have been his first appearance at a major international tournament. However, the Newcastle United full-back’s injury has now ended his participation before a ball has been kicked.

He joins a growing list of fitness concerns after a disrupted club season in which he made only 17 Premier League appearances. His campaign was affected by multiple injuries, including knee problems, a hamstring setback in January, and a thigh injury in April that ruled him out for the remainder of the domestic season.

England’s squad already included Reece James, Djed Spence, and Nico O’Reilly as full-back options, but Tuchel has opted for a replacement with versatility rather than a like-for-like positional swap.

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been called up as Livramento’s replacement. Although primarily a centre-back, Chalobah has previously filled in at right-back and is considered a flexible option capable of covering multiple defensive roles.

Chalobah, who made 47 appearances for Chelsea last season, has only one senior England cap, which came in a friendly against Senegal in 2025. Despite limited international experience, he has long been regarded as a reliable squad player with strong tactical discipline and adaptability.

Tuchel’s decision to include Chalobah is also understood to reflect the importance of versatility within a short tournament format, where squad depth and flexibility often prove decisive.

The rules of the FIFA World Cup allow injury replacements up to 24 hours before a team’s first match, provided the player comes from the official provisional squad list submitted prior to the tournament.

Livramento will now return to Newcastle United to continue his recovery, with his absence representing a frustrating blow after a season already heavily affected by injuries.

Attention now turns to England’s opening match, where Tuchel must quickly adjust his defensive structure ahead of a crucial first test against Croatia.
