Gamecocks seek rhythm despite mixed start to season

Chicken Inn’s inconsistency remains a concern after 10 matches in the Castle lager Premier soccer league (PSL), with the Gamecocks yet to establish a steady run of results despite having a balanced record so far this season.
The Bulawayo-based side has recorded four wins, three draws, and three defeats in their opening 10 league matches, collecting 15 points from a possible 30. That return leaves them in 8th position, seven points behind log leaders Caps United.
While the results suggest a competitive start, Chicken Inn have struggled to build momentum, managing only one run of back-to-back victories so far this campaign. The lack of consistency continues to affect their push up the table.
Commenting in recent post match interviews, Chicken Inn Head coach Tonderayi Ndiraya stated that they are still working to instill a winning mentality within the squad. He also highlighted that defensive lapses, particularly in dealing with long balls, have been a recurring issue leading to his side conceding soft goals in the process.
However, the coach indicated that efforts are underway to address these weaknesses and improve the overall team performance.
Despite these concerns, there are positives to build on. Chicken Inn have kept five clean sheets this season, showing some defensive resilience and discipline.
In attack, the team has scored at least nine goals, averaging close to a goal per game, a return that suggests a room for improvement but also a foundation to build on.
Chicken Inn’s attention now turns to a demanding run of fixtures, beginning with an away trip to face last season’s runners-up MWOS FC at Ngoni Stadium this weekend. The match presents an opportunity for Chicken Inn to build momentum following their recent return to winning ways at the expense of giants Dynamos.
The challenge intensifies in the weeks ahead, with fixtures against Simba Bhora, FC Platinum, and Scotland FC on the horizon. The games are expected to provide a clearer indication of the team’s progress and their ability to compete against stronger opposition as the season progresses.
