The Mighty Warriors are back home for their COSAFA Women’s Championship campaign in South Africa.
The Sithethelelwe “Kwinji 15” Sibanda girls were received by ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi at the Robert Mugabe International Airport Monday night. They punched well at the COSAFA played in Polokwane, South Africa, from February 18 to March 1.
Zimbabwe shrugged off the rust from their prevailing off-season period to reach the semifinals. They were only knocked out of the top-four by South Africa after penalties with the regular game having finished at 1-1.
The Mighty Warriors then lost to Zambia in the third place play-off, but they wouldn’t come back home empty-handed with striker Rutendo Makore winning the Golden Boot award.
Together with defender Egness Tumbare, Makore also made it into the team of the tournament.
The girls received allowances from ZIFA while they also got US$2.7k each from the government.
