Nikita Tszyu continued his impressive rise in professional boxing after stopping Spain’s Oscar Diaz in a dominant sixth-round finish on Wednesday night in Newcastle.
The unbeaten Australian super-welterweight star improved his perfect record to 13-0, delivering a clinical and powerful performance that keeps him on track for a potential world title opportunity in the near future.
Tszyu, who is building his own legacy while following in the footsteps of his legendary father Kostya Tszyu and brother Tim Tszyu, controlled the fight from the opening bell with sharp combinations and heavy pressure.
He made an early statement in the second round when he dropped Diaz with a strong left hand, signalling his intent in front of the home crowd. From that moment, Tszyu never allowed the Spaniard to settle.
Diaz, who entered the fight unbeaten in his previous 16 bouts, showed resilience in the middle rounds but struggled to cope with Tszyu’s relentless attack and physical strength.
The decisive moment came in the sixth round when Tszyu unleashed a powerful combination that sent Diaz to the canvas once again. Although Diaz initially attempted to continue, his corner ultimately advised the referee that he could not go on, bringing an end to the contest.
The victory extends the Tszyu family’s remarkable unbeaten record in boxing to 54-0 across Kostya, Tim, and Nikita Tszyu’s professional careers.
With this win, Nikita Tszyu is now expected to rise further in the IBF rankings and move closer to a potential world title eliminator or major contender bout in the super-welterweight division.
