PSL season takes off

The Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League season kicks off with mouthwatering fixtures scheduled across the country this weekend. Action starts as early as Friday when newcomers FC Hunters host MWOS at Rufaro.

It’s a game that is expected to produce fireworks given FC Hunters has closer links with Scottland FC, whose rivalry with MWOS is well-documented. MWOS made a huge statement in their debut last season finishing second and they will be looking to notch it a step up this season especially after managing to retain most of their players from last year including Billy Veremu.

Then, a flurry will follow on Saturday with Ngezi Platinum and FC Platinum renewing their rivalry in a platinum derby at Baobab. Herentals host another title favourites Chicken Inn while Dynamos, desperate to leave behind the ghosts that haunted them last year, take a trip to Gweru for a date against TelOne at Ascot.

Triangle are at home to ZPC Kariba at Gibbo, and that completes Saturday’s contests. Business continues on Saturday with a potential blockbuster opening the newly constructed Chahwanda Stadium in Kwekwe where new boys Hardrock hosts defending champions Scottland.

Another title favourites CAPS United are at home to Agama at Rufaro while Simba Bhora makes the long trip to Triangle where they face Manica Diamonds with a Bulawayo Derby between Highlanders and Bulawayo Chiefs facing off at Barbourfields.
