West Ham United were condemned to relegation from the Premier League despite securing a dominant 3-0 victory over Leeds United on the final day of the 2025/26 season at the London Stadium.
The result marked an end to a three-match winless run for the Hammers, but it was not enough to preserve their top-flight status, as Tottenham Hotspur’s victory over Everton confirmed West Ham’s drop into the Championship for the first time since the 2011/12 campaign.
Leeds United, who had already secured survival earlier in April and enjoyed an FA Cup semi-final run, were second best for large parts of the encounter but still created early chances in a nervy opening period.
The visitors nearly broke the deadlock in the seventh minute when Lukas Nmecha dragged an effort wide, before West Ham slowly grew into the contest. However, the first half remained tense, with both sides struggling for rhythm and composure in the final third.
West Ham’s first real chance came through Mateus Fernandes, whose long-range effort tested Karl Darlow in what was one of the few attacking highlights of a cautious first half. Leeds, meanwhile, threatened through Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whose close-range effort was smothered by Mads Hermansen after a quick break.
Despite improving towards the end of the half, West Ham went into the break still searching for a breakthrough after Pablo and Taty Castellanos both came close with speculative efforts.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 66th minute when Taty Castellanos rose highest to head home Jarrod Bowen’s corner, giving West Ham a deserved lead after sustained second-half pressure.
From there, the Hammers pushed on with confidence, and their captain Jarrod Bowen doubled the advantage 12 minutes from time. Bowen latched onto a superb through ball from Fernandes before finishing calmly from a tight angle with his weaker right foot.
Leeds attempted to respond but were largely contained, and West Ham sealed the win in stoppage time when Callum Wilson fired home from the edge of the box to complete a clinical final-half performance.
Despite the emphatic scoreline and improved attacking display, the result was overshadowed by events elsewhere, as Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 win over Everton confirmed West Ham’s relegation.
The defeat to their season’s fate leaves West Ham preparing for life in the Championship, marking a significant setback for the club after a difficult campaign.
