76ers Fire Morey After Playoff Disappointment

NBA side Philadelphia 76ers have dismissed president of basketball operations Daryl Morey following the team’s Eastern Conference semi-final exit, while coach Nick Nurse will remain in charge.
The decision comes after Philadelphia were swept by the New York Knicks in the playoffs, ending Morey’s sixth season leading the franchise’s basketball operations department.
Sixers managing partner Josh Harris said the organisation and Morey agreed it was time for a “fresh start” after another disappointing post-season campaign.
Former Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers will oversee basketball operations on an interim basis while leading the search for Morey’s replacement.
“To our fans, your frustration and disappointment are understandable and warranted,” Harris said in a statement. “We have fallen well short of our own expectations and failed to deliver in the way this city deserves.”
During Morey’s tenure, the 76ers posted a 270-212 regular-season record but struggled in the playoffs with a 28-26 postseason mark.
The franchise failed to progress beyond the second round during his time in charge.
Philadelphia returned to the playoffs this season after missing out in the 2024-25 campaign, when they finished with a 24-58 record.
Myers brings extensive championship experience after helping build Warriors teams that won NBA titles in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
He later worked as an ESPN analyst before joining Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment in October 2025 as president of sports.
