Edwards injury blow for Timberwolves Playoff Push

Hope

The Minnesota Timberwolves are facing a major setback after star guard Anthony Edwards sustained a left knee injury that is expected to sideline him for several weeks.

Edwards suffered a hyperextended knee and a bone bruise during Game 4 against the Denver Nuggets. While early assessments indicated the knee remains structurally intact, the injury is likely to keep him out for a long period.

The incident occurred in the first half of Minnesota’s 112–96 victory on Saturday night, a result that handed the Timberwolves a 3–1 series lead. However, the win was overshadowed by injuries to two key players.

Guard Donte DiVincenzo also suffered a serious setback, tearing his Achilles tendon in the same game. The Timberwolves confirmed he underwent surgery in New York on Sunday, ruling him out for the remainder of the season and placing his availability for the 2026–27 campaign in doubt.

A similar injury was sustained by Jayson Tatum during last season’s playoffs. Tatum returned after approximately 10 months, offering a possible recovery timeline, though outcomes can vary.

Edwards has been central to Minnesota’s campaign, averaging 28.8 points per game this season, the third-highest in the league behind Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers and reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also contributed five rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

The 24-year-old guard was also part of the United States team that won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing as the team’s fourth-leading scorer.

The injury occurred while Edwards was contesting a layup attempt by Denver’s Cam Johnson. He landed awkwardly, with his knee buckling on impact, and required assistance as he left the court.
