Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten advanced to the semi-finals of the Mutua Madrid Open doubles event after defeating Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic in straight sets on Thursday.

The third-seeded pair secured a 6-3, 7-6(3) victory over the fifth seeds to reach their first semi-final at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid.

Heliovaara and Patten, who started the 2026 season strongly on hard courts, are showing signs of improvement on clay after earlier struggles in Monte-Carlo and Barcelona. According to Infosys ATP Stats, they converted two of 12 break points in the quarter-final win.

They will now face Luke Johnson and Jan Zielinski in Friday’s semi-finals after the British-Polish duo defeated Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

In the other semi-final, Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard will take on Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni. Andreozzi and Guinard defeated Romain Arneodo and Valentin Vacherot 6-4, 3-6, 10-6, while Gonzalez and Molteni beat Andre Goransson and Evan King 7-6(6), 6-2.

Andreozzi and Guinard have maintained strong form this season, having recently won in Indian Wells and climbed to third in the PIF ATP Live Doubles Teams Rankings.

Earlier in the tournament, Heliovaara and Patten fought back to defeat Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti 2-6, 7-6(8), 10-8 to reach the quarter-finals.

Johnson and Zielinski also impressed on their way to the last four, overcoming Tallon Griekspoor and Brandon Nakashima in a match tie-break.

Elsewhere, Arevalo and Pavic had progressed with a straight-sets win over Marc Polmans and Alexander Bublik before their quarter-final exit.

Andreozzi and Guinard showed resilience earlier in the tournament, saving multiple match points to defeat Luciano Darderi and Stefanos Tsitsipas in a deciding tie-break.

Other results in the Mutua Madrid doubles include Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul defeating Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool, while Christian Harrison and Neal Skupski advanced to the second round after ending a three-match losing streak.
