Sinner crushes Zverev to seal Madrid crown

Hope

World Tennis number one Jannik Sinner produced a top drawer performance to defeat Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 and win the Mutua Madrid Open title on Sunday, extending his remarkable run in ATP Masters 1000 events.

The Italian needed just 58 minutes to secure victory at the Manolo Santana Stadium, becoming the first player to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles.

The win continues a dominant stretch that has seen Sinner claim titles in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and now Madrid.

Sinner did not face a single break point in the final and converted all four opportunities on Zverev’s serve, underlining his control throughout the match. According to ATP statistics, he also won 93 percent of points behind his first serve

“I think there is a lot of work behind it,” Sinner said after the match. “A lot of dedication and sacrifice I put in every day. It means a lot to see these results.”

Zverev, a two-time Madrid champion, struggled to match Sinner’s intensity and consistency, particularly in the opening stages where he fell 5-0 behind in the first set. The German was playing his first final of the season.

Sinner has now won eight of the nine ATP Masters 1000 titles in his career, with only the Internazionali BNL d’Italia missing. He could complete the Career Golden Masters if he wins in Rome next week, a feat only achieved by Novak Djokovic.

The victory also extends Sinner’s dominance over Zverev, improving his head-to-head record to 10-4, with five consecutive straight-set wins in their recent meetings.
