Thunder complete sweep over Lakers in NBA Playoffs

Hope

Oklahoma City Thunder advanced to the Western Conference Finals after defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 115 -110 on Monday to complete a 4–0 series sweep in the NBA playoffs.

The victory marked another dominant postseason performance from the defending champions, who had earlier swept the Phoenix Suns in the opening round.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 35 points as Oklahoma City held off a late Lakers fightback to secure the win at Cryptocom Arena.

The result also ended the Lakers’ season and raised speculation over the future of 41-year-old star LeBron James, who is currently out of contract and has not confirmed whether he will continue into a 24th NBA season.

James contributed 24 points and 12 rebounds in what could be his final appearance, although no official retirement announcement has been made.

Oklahoma City will now face either the San Antonio Spurs or the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals. The series is currently tied 2–2.

A number of high-profile celebrities, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Eddie Murphy, were among the crowd watching the potential final playoff appearance of James at the arena.

Despite a strong second-half effort, the Lakers were unable to recover after Oklahoma City controlled key moments late in the game.

James’ future remains uncertain. He joined the Lakers in 2018 from Cleveland and is an unrestricted free agent heading into the offseason. Reports have suggested he may consider re-signing with the Lakers, exploring other teams, or even retirement, although nothing has been confirmed.

The Lakers’ playoff run was heavily affected by injuries, including a long-term absence for Luka Dončić and a setback for Austin Reaves, leaving the team short of depth in key moments.

Los Angeles had shown strong form late in the regular season, but were ultimately outmatched by a consistent and disciplined Oklahoma City side.
