LeBron Unsure Over NBA Future After Lakers Exit

Hope

LeBron James says he has not yet decided whether he will return for another NBA season following the Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff elimination against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.

The 41-year-old scored 24 points in the Lakers’ 115-110 defeat as Oklahoma City completed a second-round series victory.

Speaking after the game, James said he would take time with his family before making a decision on his future.

“I don’t know what the future holds for me,” James said. “I’ll go back and recalibrate with my family, spend time with them, and when the time comes, everyone will know what I decide to do.”

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer has not ruled out retirement, a return to the Lakers or the possibility of continuing elsewhere as he considers a potential 24th NBA season.

Despite his age, James remained one of the Lakers’ key performers throughout the campaign. He averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game while helping Los Angeles reach the playoffs despite several injury setbacks within the squad.

The Lakers were without key players for parts of the postseason, with injuries affecting both Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves during the latter stages of the campaign. James, however, led the team through a difficult stretch and helped guide the Lakers past the Houston Rockets in the opening round.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander praised James after the series, describing his longevity and influence as remarkable.

“He was a force,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “I’m not sure we’ll see anything like that again, his longevity and greatness.”

James continued to reach milestones this season, earning his 22nd NBA All-Star selection and becoming the oldest player in league history to record a triple-double. He also surpassed Robert Parish for the most regular-season games played in NBA history.

The veteran forward said the season was challenging but praised the fighting spirit, shown by the Lakers during difficult periods.

“It was so many different seasons in one season with our ballclub,” James said. “I thought our group responded and was super-resilient.”

James also highlighted the personal impact of continuing his career in Los Angeles, where he has spent time playing alongside his son, Bronny James, while remaining close to his family in Southern California.

For now, the four-time NBA champion says he will step away from basketball to reflect before making a final decision on whether he will continue his historic career.
