Spurs Crush Timberwolves To Reach Western Conference Finals
Hope
The San Antonio Spurs powered into the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2017 after dismantling the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109 in Game 6 on Friday night.
San Antonio completed the series in dominant fashion and will now face the Oklahoma City Thunder in a blockbuster Western Conference finals showdown beginning on Monday.
The Spurs controlled the contest from the opening minutes and never allowed Minnesota back into the game, building a huge first-half advantage before stretching the lead to as many as 37 points.
Young guard Stephon Castle produced a sensational performance to lead San Antonio with 32 points, 11 rebounds and six assists while shooting 11-of-16 from the field.
Castle also made NBA playoff history after becoming the youngest player ever to record 30 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five three-pointers in a postseason game.
French superstar Victor Wembanyama added 19 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while De’Aaron Fox chipped in with 21 points and nine assists in another polished Spurs display.
The Spurs were deadly from long range and set a new franchise playoff record with 18 three-pointers during the blowout victory.
Minnesota struggled to match San Antonio’s intensity throughout the night despite 24 points from Anthony Edwards.
After a competitive start to the series, the Spurs completely overwhelmed the Timberwolves across the final two games, underlining why they have been regarded as one of the strongest teams in the Western Conference all season.
San Antonio will now renew its rivalry with the Oklahoma City Thunder in what is expected to be one of the most anticipated playoff series of the season.
