Bruno Fernandes Equals Premier League Assist Record in Manchester United Win Over Nottingham Forest

Hope

Bruno Fernandes has equalled the Premier League record for most assists in a single season after registering his 20th assist in Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Manchester United captain reached the milestone in the 76th minute when his delivery into the box was turned home by Bryan Mbeumo, bringing him level with Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019/20).

Fernandes had been heavily involved throughout the match as United pressed forward in search of goals, but a combination of missed chances, last-ditch defending, and the woodwork initially delayed his record-equalling moment.

The Portugal international has been one of the standout performers of the season, playing a key creative role in Michael Carrick’s side and consistently providing decisive contributions in the final third.

A significant portion of his assists this season has come from set-pieces, underlining his precision delivery and growing influence in dead-ball situations.

Fernandes admitted after the match that reaching the record had been on his mind, but stressed that securing the victory was more important than the personal milestone.

“Everyone knew it was important that I got another assist,” he said. “There were moments where I probably should have passed instead of shooting, but I’m happy with the assist and even happier with the win.”

Despite the achievement, Fernandes has enjoyed a standout individual season, also being named Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year after narrowly edging out Declan Rice.

United now head into their final Premier League match of the season against Brighton, where Fernandes will have the opportunity to break the all-time assist record outright.
