Hansi Flick has signed a new contract that will keep him at Barcelona until June 2028, with the Spanish champions confirming a further option year as they secure continuity under their successful head coach.
The 61-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2027, but Barcelona have moved to extend his stay following another dominant season under his leadership.
Flick’s latest success was sealed after Barcelona’s 2-0 Clasico victory over Real Madrid on May 10, a result that confirmed their second consecutive La Liga title.
The German coach had already hinted earlier in the year that Barcelona would likely be his final managerial role, before confirming in April his intention to continue at the club.
“I’ve realised I’m in the right place,” Flick said. “It’s a commitment on our part to reach the highest level and win new titles. Everyone dreams of the Champions League. We’ve tried and we’ll keep trying.”
Since arriving in 2024, Flick has guided Barcelona to five trophies, including two La Liga titles, two Spanish Super Cups and a Copa del Rey, restoring domestic dominance at Camp Nou.
His tenure has also been defined by strong integration of La Masia talent, with players such as Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Gavi and Fermín López playing key roles in the club’s success.
Flick has also maximised performances from senior players, helping Barcelona maintain consistency despite ongoing financial and structural challenges.
While European success has remained elusive, Barcelona remain confident that stability under Flick will strengthen their push for the UEFA Champions League in the coming seasons.
Sporting director Deco is expected to continue squad reinforcement ahead of next season as the club aims to maintain domestic dominance while competing at the highest level in Europe.
