Hope

Bangladesh national cricket team moved above India national cricket team in the ICC World Test Championship standings after sealing a historic 78-run victory over Pakistan national cricket team in the second Test in Sylhet.

The victory secured a dominant 2-0 series sweep for Bangladesh, marking their first-ever home Test series win against Pakistan and their second consecutive clean sweep over the Asian giants following their 2024 triumph in Pakistan.

Bangladesh wrapped up the memorable victory during the morning session on the final day, taking the final three Pakistan wickets to deny the visitors a record chase of 437 runs.

Spinner Taijul Islam starred for the hosts with a brilliant six-wicket haul, including two key wickets on the final day that crushed Pakistan’s resistance.

Fast bowler Shoriful Islam also played a decisive role after dismissing Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan for 94, a breakthrough that shifted the momentum firmly in Bangladesh’s favour.

The impressive series result has boosted Bangladesh’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 ICC World Test Championship Final. They now rise to fifth place in the standings with a points percentage of 58.33%, while India drop to sixth. Pakistan remain eighth following the defeat.

Bangladesh had earlier won the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium by 104 runs before completing the series sweep with another outstanding performance in Sylhet.

The series has been widely celebrated as one of Bangladesh’s greatest Test achievements and another major step forward for the team in the longest format of the game.
