Friend Joins Zimbabwe Camp Ahead Of Bangladesh Series
Hope
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has brought in former South African first-class cricketer Quinton Friend to assist the national team as a consultant bowling coach ahead of Zimbabwe’s home series against Bangladesh national cricket team, which begins in June.
Friend is currently working with the Zimbabwe senior men’s team during a training camp in Harare under head coach Justin Sammons as preparations intensify for the upcoming Test and limited-overs fixtures.
The appointment is part of ZC’s efforts to strengthen the bowling department ahead of the international assignment at home conditions.
Friend is understood to be working alongside the existing coaching staff in a short-term consultancy capacity, focusing on pace bowling development and match readiness during the camp.
He is the head coach of the Hollywoodbets Dolphins franchise in South Africa and brings extensive domestic coaching experience.
Friend is a former South African right-arm fast-medium bowler who played domestic cricket over a long career, primarily in South Africa’s provincial system. He represented KwaZulu-Natal-based sides and later transitioned into coaching roles within South African domestic cricket structures.
The Chevrons will get their tour underway with a five-day Test match at Harare Sports Club from 28 June to 2 July.
The two teams will remain in Harare for the ODI series, with matches scheduled for 6, 9 and 11 July at the same venue.
The tour will then move to Bulawayo, where Queens Sports Club will host the T20I series on 15, 17 and 19 July.
