Manchester City midfielder Nico O’Reilly has been named the Premier League Young Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign after an outstanding breakthrough year.

The 21-year-old was recognised for his consistency, versatility and growing influence in Pep Guardiola’s squad, playing a key role in City’s title-challenging season. O’Reilly featured in multiple positions throughout the campaign, showcasing his adaptability at the highest level.

O’Reilly made 34 appearances across all competitions, contributing five goals and three assists, while also playing a part in nine clean sheets. His performances established him as one of the most promising young talents in English football.

Speaking after receiving the award, O’Reilly expressed his pride at his development and thanked the coaching staff and teammates for their support.

“After my first appearances in senior football last season, I knew this year I could have the opportunity to play more and help the team if I worked hard,” he said. “To earn the trust of the manager and my teammates has been the biggest achievement of my career so far.”

The midfielder, who came through Manchester City’s academy after joining at the age of eight, captained the Under-18 side to a league title in 2022/23 before progressing into the senior team.

His rise has included key performances in major competitions, including scoring twice in the EFL Cup final and featuring in the FA Cup final victory over Chelsea. He also earned his senior England debut earlier this season.

Pep Guardiola praised the youngster’s development, highlighting his tactical intelligence and work rate.

“He’s played full-back, holding midfield and now central midfield. He has incredible ability and has made a big step forward,” Guardiola said.

O’Reilly finished ahead of an eight-man shortlist, becoming one of the standout young players in the league this season.
