Victor Wembanyama scored 33 points as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-82 in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals on Sunday night to level the series.
Wembanyama added eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks in a dominant all-round display as San Antonio responded strongly after Friday’s defeat in Game 3.
De’Aaron Fox contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, while Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell each scored 13 points for the Spurs.
The victory ensured San Antonio avoided losing three consecutive games for the first time this season.
Game 5 will be played in Oklahoma City on Tuesday before the series returns to San Antonio for Game 6 on Thursday.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led Oklahoma City with 19 points but struggled with efficiency, shooting 6-for-15 from the field.
San Antonio’s defensive performance proved decisive, with the Spurs holding the Thunder to 33 percent shooting overall and just 6-for-33 from three-point range.
The Spurs also improved significantly off the bench after being heavily outscored by Oklahoma City’s reserves in Game 3.
San Antonio’s substitutes contributed 30 points while limiting the Thunder bench to 34.The hosts made a fast start and never surrendered control of the contest.
A 16-0 run in the first quarter, highlighted by an alley-oop dunk from Wembanyama following a block on Jared McCain, helped the Spurs establish a 23-8 lead.
San Antonio recorded assists on all 10 of its first-quarter field goals and restricted Oklahoma City to just 38 first-half points.
The Thunder’s 82-point total was their second-lowest scoring output in postseason history against the Spurs.
