Thunder Edge Closer To NBA Finals Return.

Anotida

Oklahoma City Thunder moved within one win of the NBA Finals after defeating the San Antonio Spurs 127-114 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday night.

Led by reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder secured a 3-2 series lead and are now one victory away from advancing to face the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals.

Gilgeous-Alexander produced a dominant performance with 32 points and nine assists in his highest-scoring outing of the series. He also impressed from the free-throw line, converting 16 of his 17 attempts.

Oklahoma City responded strongly after a disappointing Game 4 display, where the team recorded its lowest scoring output and field-goal percentage of the season.

The Thunder’s defensive pressure proved decisive, limiting San Antonio to 40.2 percent shooting from the field while containing Spurs star Victor Wembanyama.

Wembanyama finished with 20 points, six rebounds and two blocks but struggled offensively, shooting just 4-for-15 from the field and missing all five of his three-point attempts.

Alex Caruso provided a major spark off the bench with 22 points, including four three-pointers, while Chet Holmgren recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Isaiah Hartenstein also made a strong contribution with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds as Oklahoma City controlled the paint.

The Thunder were again without forward Jalen Williams due to a left hamstring injury, while Ajay Mitchell missed the game with a right calf strain.

For San Antonio, Stephon Castle led the scoring with 24 points, while Julian Champagnie added 22 points and eight rebounds.

De’Aaron Fox was restricted to nine points as the Spurs struggled to match Oklahoma City’s intensity on both ends of the floor.

The series now shifts to San Antonio for Game 6 on Friday, where the Spurs will attempt to force a decisive seventh game and keep their playoff hopes alive in the series.
