Gwatidzo Shines As Dynamos End Ngezi’s Unbeaten Run

Hope

Dynamos winger Abel Gwatidzo delivered a match-winning performance to earn the LuckyBets Player of the Match award after inspiring his side to a 2-1 comeback victory over Ngezi Platinum Stars at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

Gwatidzo scored the crucial equaliser and remained a constant attacking threat as Dynamos ended Ngezi Platinum’s 14-match unbeaten run in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The visitors made a bright start and took the lead in the sixth minute when Praise Muchengete headed home from a well-delivered corner to give Ngezi an early advantage.

Despite falling behind, Dynamos gradually grew into the contest, with Gwatidzo at the centre of most of their attacking moves. The winger first showed his intent in the 20th minute when he delivered a dangerous low cross that nearly resulted in an equaliser.

His influence eventually paid off eight minutes later.

After a swift attacking move involving Leeroy Mavhunga and Frank Agyemang, the ball fell kindly to Gwatidzo on the left side of the penalty area. The winger unleashed a powerful strike into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Darlington Murasiranwa with no chance and bringing the Rufaro Stadium crowd to life.

The goal shifted momentum in Dynamos’ favour as they continued to press for a winner.

Ngezi Platinum enjoyed periods of possession in the second half but struggled to create clear-cut chances against a disciplined Dynamos defence.

The decisive moment arrived in the 70th minute when Moses Demera tapped home from close range after being picked out by Tellmore Pio to complete the comeback.

While Demera scored the winning goal, it was Gwatidzo’s overall contribution that stood out. His pace, movement and attacking creativity troubled the Ngezi defence throughout the match, while his spectacular equaliser proved to be the turning point in the contest.

The LuckyBets Player of the Match award capped an impressive afternoon for the Dynamos winger, whose performance played a key role in securing three valuable points for the Harare giants.
