Chinyerere Shines As Bosso Beats Hunters

Hope

Highlanders FC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hunters FC at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday, with Nomore Chinyerere producing a commanding performance that earned him the LuckyBets Player of the Match award.

The defender played a key role as Bosso collected all three points in an entertaining encounter, helping the hosts withstand late pressure after taking control of the match.

Highlanders made the perfect start, taking the lead just two minutes into the game. Following a foul on Royn Nyamano, Andrew Mbeba delivered a well-placed ball into the penalty area where Marvin Sibanda rose highest to head home to give the hosts an early advantage.

The home side continued to threaten and nearly doubled their lead in the ninth minute when Benjamin Adeogun tested the Hunters goalkeeper with a long-range effort.

At the other end, goalkeeper Aron “Arusha” Ngwenya proved instrumental in preserving Highlanders’ lead. The shot-stopper produced two impressive saves in quick succession to deny Hunters and ensure Bosso went into the halftime break leading 1-0.

Highlanders strengthened their grip on the contest in the 63rd minute when Adeogun showed composure inside the box, calmly finishing to make it 2-0.

However, the striker’s afternoon was cut short five minutes later after he sustained an injury and was stretchered off. Dominic Jaricha and Isaac Ngoma were introduced as replacements, with Ngoma immediately making an impact by beating his marker before firing narrowly over the crossbar.

Hunters refused to surrender and pulled a goal back late in the match to set up a tense finish. Brighton Ncube came close to restoring Highlanders’ two-goal cushion in the 89th minute after being picked out by Ackim Nkomo, but his effort drifted just wide.

Despite the late pressure, Highlanders remained composed and saw out the match to secure a deserved victory in front of their home supporters.

At the heart of the performance was Chinyerere, whose composed display at the heart of the defence provided stability throughout the contest.

Beyond his defensive duties, he helped initiate attacks from deep positions, showing confidence on the ball and an ability to break opposition lines with purposeful passing.

His reading of the game, positioning and decision-making allowed Highlanders to maintain control during key phases of the match, particularly when Hunters attempted to mount a comeback.

The victory saw Highlanders climb to 7th position on the log standings and now sits 6 points off first placed Hardrock FC.
