Hope

Harare is set to host a week of thrilling youth football as the 2026 African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals gets underway today at Gateway High School. The tournament, running from 2 to 10 April, brings together the continent’s top schoolboy and schoolgirl teams, offering a platform for young African talent to shine on an international stage.

The championship marks the return of a major competition to Zimbabwe after more than six years, presenting a proud moment for local football supporters, schools, and communities. Since its inception by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe in 2021, the African Schools Football Championship has grown into Africa’s flagship schools football programme, reaching over three million children from more than 82,000 schools across 48 African countries.

In addition to the competitive matches, the tournament promotes education, development, and social transformation. Through the support of the Motsepe Foundation, prize money is reserved for school infrastructure projects, including classrooms, libraries, and sports facilities, ensuring a lasting legacy beyond the pitch.
