Bangladesh women’s team players Nahida Akter and Sarmin Sultana have been sanctioned following separate breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Women’s Championship series.
The two players were fined 10 per cent of their match fees and handed one demerit point each after being found guilty of Level 1 offences, which relate to on-field behaviour and dissent during international matches.
Nahida Akter was charged under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct for an aggressive send-off after dismissing Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu in the 17th over of the innings. Her actions were deemed to have crossed the line in terms of acceptable celebration and player conduct.
Sarmin Sultana was penalised under Article 2.8 after showing dissent towards an umpire’s LBW decision during Bangladesh’s innings in the 16th over. She was also observed delaying her departure from the field after the decision was given.
Match officials, including the on-field umpires, third and fourth umpires, reported the incidents and levelled the charges. Both players admitted the offences and accepted the sanctions imposed.
Level 1 breaches typically carry penalties ranging from an official warning to fines of up to 50 per cent of a match fee, along with one or two demerit points depending on the severity of the offence.
Despite the disciplinary cases, the series remains finely poised at 1-1 after Sri Lanka responded strongly with a win in the second ODI, setting up a decisive final match.
