Bruno Fernandes Named Premier League Player of the Season After Historic Manchester United Campaign

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Season after a remarkable 2025/26 campaign at Old Trafford.
The 31-year-old enjoyed a standout season, scoring eight goals and equalling the Premier League record for most assists in a single campaign with 20, matching Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. His performances were instrumental in helping Manchester United secure Champions League qualification.
It is the first time Fernandes has won the prestigious award, and he becomes only the seventh Manchester United player in history to claim the honour, joining legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dwight Yorke and Peter Schmeichel.
Fernandes had already been recognised with the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award earlier in the season, further highlighting his influence during a historic individual campaign.
He also beat strong competition for the award, including Arsenal trio David Raya, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice, as well as Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who once again impressed in front of goal.
Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White and Brentford forward Igor Thiago were also among the nominees.
Fernandes’ creativity, leadership and consistency proved decisive as Manchester United returned to Europe’s top competition, with his record-equalling assist tally standing out as one of the defining achievements of the season.
