The Marian Marinica chapter with the Zimbabwe senior men’s national team has come to a sudden end after the coach resigned from his post, bringing his short but closely followed reign to a close.
Marinica, who was appointed in November 2025 and had been in charge for five months, stepped down citing personal reasons, with the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) confirming and accepting his resignation.
His tenure, though brief, had a notable high point when he guided the Warriors to victory at a four-nation tournament in Botswana in March 2026, where Zimbabwe defeated Zambia in the final to lift the trophy. Despite that success, his spell has now ended unexpectedly.
In an official statement, ZIFA thanked the Romanian coach for his contribution to the Warriors setup and wished him well going forward, marking the end of an era that had generated expectations of rebuilding and tactical restructuring.
In swift response, former Warriors assistant coach Kaitano Tembo has been appointed interim head coach, immediately taking charge of the national team ahead of the upcoming Unity Cup assignment in the United Kingdom.
Tembo’s return to the top technical role brings familiarity and continuity within the setup, as he steps into a demanding period with limited preparation time.
He will be assisted by Takesure Chiragwi, who also makes a return to the national team structure after previously stepping away from coaching duties following his exit from Ngezi Platinum Stars last year.
ZIFA confirmed the new technical bench as part of immediate changes to stabilise the Warriors ahead of upcoming international commitments, with focus now shifting quickly to performance on the pitch under new leadership.
The transition marks another significant turning point for the Warriors, as Tembo inherits a squad still searching for consistency on the international stage.
