Maswanhise Helps Motherwell Seal European Football After Hard-Fought Win Over Hibernian

Hope

Motherwell FC secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road, capping off a strong campaign in the Scottish Premiership.

Lukas Fadinger’s first-half strike proved decisive as Motherwell delivered a disciplined and determined performance to claim fourth place and confirm their return to European football.

The visitors made a bright start, creating early chances through Elijah Just and Regan Charles-Cook, while Zimbabwe international Tawanda Maswanhise also tested the defence with a promising header that went narrowly wide.

Fadinger broke the deadlock in the 35th minute, finishing clinically from the edge of the box after being picked out by a well-delivered cross to give Motherwell a deserved lead.

After the break, Hibernian pushed for an equaliser but found Motherwell well organised and difficult to break down.

The visitors were reduced to ten men in the second half when Elliot Watt was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, increasing the pressure on the away side.

Despite that setback, Motherwell showed strong defensive resilience, with stand-in goalkeeper Matty Connelly rarely tested as they managed the closing stages effectively.

A VAR intervention also ruled out a second Motherwell goal, but the visitors remained composed to see out a crucial victory.

The result confirmed European football for Motherwell, rounding off a successful season under manager Jens Berthel Askou.

Maswanhise, who has been an important figure throughout the campaign, once again contributed with a lively attacking display as he continued his strong form in Scottland, helping Motherwell secure a place in European football.
