Ruud Cruises Past Brooksby in Straight Sets to Open Geneva 2026 Campaign

Casper Ruud produced a composed and clinical performance to defeat Jenson Brooksby 6-3, 7-5 in the first round of the 2026 Geneva event, sealing his place in the next stage after 1 hour and 32 minutes on court.

The world No. 17 controlled proceedings on the red clay, using his heavy topspin and consistency from the baseline to dictate rallies and keep the American under pressure throughout the match.

Ruud entered the tournament in strong form on his preferred surface, coming off a recent run that included a high-profile clay-court final just two days earlier, where he narrowly lost to world No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Earlier victories over players such as Lorenzo Musetti and Stefanos Tsitsipas further highlighted his growing momentum during the clay season.

In contrast, Brooksby’s struggles on clay continued, with this defeat marking his fifth consecutive loss on the surface this season. The world No. 60 has found it difficult to adapt his defensive style to slower conditions, despite showing stronger form on hard courts earlier in the year.

Although Brooksby reached a quarter-final run on hard courts in February, his game once again looked vulnerable on clay against a well-settled Ruud.

The Norwegian’s superior rhythm, movement, and tactical discipline ultimately proved decisive as he comfortably advanced into the second round of the Geneva 2026 tournament.
