Jannik Sinner continued his dominant form on clay after defeating Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-4 to reach the semi-finals of the Italian Open in Rome on Thursday.
The world number one extended his winning run in Masters 1000 events to 32 consecutive victories, breaking the previous record held by Novak Djokovic, which stood since 2011.
Sinner produced another commanding performance at the Foro Italico, taking control early by breaking Rublev’s serve in the opening game of both sets and never allowing the Russian to recover.
Rublev, who was Sinner’s first seeded opponent of the tournament, struggled to cope with the Italian’s consistency and power, committing 28 unforced errors as Sinner dictated play from the baseline.
The victory further strengthens Sinner’s status as the leading force in men’s tennis at present, especially on clay, where he continues to build momentum ahead of the French Open.
He is now expected to face either Daniil Medvedev or Martin Landaluce in the semi-finals, as he moves closer to a potential home title in Rome.
With rival Carlos Alcaraz currently sidelined through injury, Sinner remains the strong favourite to become the first Italian in decades to lift the Rome trophy and further cement his growing legacy on the ATP Tour.
