Spurs Edge Thunder To Reach NBA Finals

Hope

The San Antonio Spurs are heading to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014 after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103 in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals on Saturday night to clinch the series 4-3.

Led by Victor Wembanyama’s 22 points and Julian Champagnie’s 20-point contribution, the Spurs completed a hard-fought comeback series victory to secure the Western Conference title and set up a championship showdown with the New York Knicks.

San Antonio controlled large portions of the decisive contest, building an early 14-point lead in the first quarter before holding off several Oklahoma City rallies.

The Thunder cut the deficit to six points late in the fourth quarter, but missed key three-point attempts before Devin Vassell sealed the victory with a late dunk.

Wembanyama once again played a pivotal role for the Spurs, adding seven rebounds and a block in 42 minutes. Champagnie provided valuable perimeter scoring, connecting on six three-pointers, while Stephon Castle contributed 16 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The victory caps a memorable series for San Antonio. The Spurs opened the Western Conference Finals with a double-overtime win in Game 1, powered by Wembanyama’s 41 points and 24 rebounds.

After Oklahoma City gained momentum in the series, San Antonio responded to level the matchup before forcing a winner-take-all Game 7.

For Oklahoma City, the defeat ends an impressive playoff campaign. Thunder star Chet Holmgren was limited to four points and four rebounds, while the defending champions were unable to complete a late comeback despite remaining within striking distance throughout the final quarter.

The Spurs will now face the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. The Knicks have reached the championship series for the first time since 1999, setting up a rematch of the 1999 NBA Finals, which San Antonio won.

The matchup guarantees the NBA will crown a new champion for the eighth consecutive season, continuing a period of parity across the league.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for June 4.
