Tatum Injury overshadows Boston game Seven Defeat

Hope

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum says it was “unfortunate timing” after he missed Game 7 of their playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers due to left knee stiffness, as Boston fell 109-100 to exit the postseason.

Speaking after the defeat on Sunday, Tatum said the injury setback came at a difficult moment, especially after what he described as a strong recovery from a previous Achilles injury.

“My recovery and comeback were going so well that I didn’t think it would end this way. It was just unfortunate,” Tatum said.

He added that he had worked hard to return to peak performance, making the sudden end to his season difficult to accept.

Boston’s elimination marked a historic collapse, with the Celtics becoming one of the few teams in NBA history to surrender a 3-1 series lead in a best-of-seven playoff.

Tatum’s absence was a major talking point, particularly after his late change in status, from not being listed on the injury report, to being marked questionable, and eventually ruled out less than two hours before tip-off.

There were earlier signs of discomfort during Game 6, where Tatum appeared affected in the second half. However, it remains unclear whether he could have continued, especially after head coach Joe Mazzulla opted to rest key players late in the game with the result effectively decided.
