Madhevere’s Brilliant Century in Vain as Bangladesh Emerging Defeat Zimbabwe A by 85 Runs in High-Scoring Opener

By Luckybets Media Team

Zimbabwe A suffered an 85-run defeat to Bangladesh Emerging in the opening match of their Bangladesh tour on Monday, 8 June 2026, despite a superb century from Wessly Madhevere in a high-scoring encounter at Shaheed Chandu Stadium.

Zimbabwe A won the toss and elected to field first, but Bangladesh Emerging produced a powerful batting display to post a commanding 364/10 from their 50 overs. Zakir Hasan led the charge with a brilliant 119, while Ifthakar Hossain Iftil supported strongly with 70 as the hosts dominated large portions of the innings. Zimbabwe A’s bowling attack worked hard in difficult conditions, with Ernest Masuku finishing as the pick of the bowlers with 3/70 from his 10 overs, while Antum Naqvi chipped in with 2/57 from his nine-over spell.

In response, Zimbabwe A showed strong resistance with the bat, led by a sensational innings from Wessly Madhevere, who struck 116 runs off 93 deliveries in a commanding display of stroke play and intent. Matthew Campbell also contributed a valuable 52 off 57 balls, but Zimbabwe A struggled to build sustained partnerships against a disciplined Bangladesh Emerging bowling unit.

The pressure eventually told as Zimbabwe A were bowled out for 279 in 48.5 overs, falling short of the 364-run target. Rohanat Doullah Borson and Samiun Basir Ratul led the Bangladesh Emerging attack with three wickets apiece, finishing with 3/72 and 3/52 respectively, as they broke through at key moments to halt Zimbabwe A’s chase.

Despite the defeat, Zimbabwe A will take encouragement from Madhevere’s outstanding century and Campbell’s support innings, as well as brief bowling highlights earlier in the match. However, Bangladesh Emerging’s all-round performance proved decisive in securing an 85-run victory and taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

The two sides will meet again on Wednesday, 10 June, 2026, in the second match of the series as Zimbabwe A look to bounce back and level the contest.
