Zimbabwe rise to tenth place in ICC Test rankings

Hope

Zimbabwe’s men’s cricket team has moved up to 10th place from 11th in the latest ICC Men’s Test rankings, benefiting from changes in qualification criteria rather than on-field results.

The Chevrons entered the standings after Ireland dropped out for failing to meet the minimum requirement of eight Test matches within the ranking period. According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), teams must play a minimum required number of matches to remain ranked.

Ireland, along with Afghanistan, will need to play at least two Test matches within the next 12 months to regain their place in the rankings.

Zimbabwe’s limited number of Test matches in recent years remains a key factor affecting their overall ranking points, despite some competitive outings. Increased participation in longer-format cricket could improve their standing in future rankings.

In the women’s game, Zimbabwe have also made progress, climbing two places from 14th to 12th in the latest Women’s ODI Team Rankings. The improvement reflects increased participation and recent competitive performances in bilateral series and ICC-sanctioned events.

Meanwhile, global powerhouse Australia continues to dominate both the men’s and women’s rankings, maintaining top positions across formats due to consistent performances and strong win to loss records over the rating period.

ICC is expected to release further rankings updates in the coming days, including the Men’s and Women’s T20I rankings on 5 May, followed by the Men’s ODI Team Rankings on 7 May.
