Zimbabwe Set to Host Australia as Muzarabani Eyes IPL Growth
Hope

Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani is relishing the challenge of competing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with the towering pacer confident the high-level competition is shaping him into a better bowler.
Currently part of the Kolkata Knight Riders setup, Muzarabani says the intensity of franchise cricket has pushed him beyond what he has experienced on the international stage.
“I believe that IPL is probably tougher than international cricket,” Muzarabani said in an interview with Sportstar.
“So, me being there last year, I really saw how it’s played. This year, it’s just me adjusting.”
The Zimbabwe international continues to adapt to the fast-paced demands of T20 cricket, where execution, variation, and game awareness are crucial.
A key figure in his growth has been KKR mentor Dwayne Bravo, who has been working closely with him since his arrival at the franchise.
“He has already told me a lot of things. Ever since I started playing, he has given me a lot of information about my bowling and the kind of skills that I need, especially in T20 — how to practise and how to watch the game,” said Muzarabani.
“I believe that at the end of the season, I’m going to be a different bowler.”
Muzarabani earned his IPL opportunity following an impressive campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where he claimed 13 wickets and stood out, particularly during Zimbabwe’s encounter against India. His performances quickly caught the attention of scouts, leading to his call-up.
After the exit of Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman, KKR moved swiftly to bring in the 29-year-old, further strengthening Zimbabwe’s footprint in one of the world’s biggest T20 leagues.
This is not his first taste of the IPL, having previously been signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru as a temporary replacement for Lungi Ngidi. Although his opportunities were limited then, the experience proved valuable in understanding the tempo and pressure of the tournament.
Now more settled, Muzarabani is determined to make a meaningful impact.
“I want to play and perform. I believe I am good enough. Last year I got to see how the game is played and the tempo, and this year I just want to contribute.”
He also pointed to the strong work ethic within the KKR camp as a driving force behind his motivation.
“Guys are so hard-working. I’m a hard worker as well, but I’m really challenged by the way they work and how hungry they are to succeed. They’re really pushing me.”
Zimbabwe Players Continue to Rise Globally
Zimbabwean cricketers continue to attract attention across major T20 leagues, with more players securing high-profile franchise deals.
All-rounder Ryan Burl has joined Lahore Qalandars ahead of the new Pakistan Super League season. The defending champions confirmed Burl as their final squad addition, taking their roster to 20 players.
The 31-year-old links up with Zimbabwe T20 captain Sikandar Raza, making him the second Zimbabwean in the squad.
Meanwhile, opener Brian Bennett has secured a move to Peshawar Zalmi, further highlighting the increasing demand for Zimbabwean players.
The growing interest in Zimbabwean talent follows the team’s strong performances at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, where several players impressed on the global stage.
With Muzarabani sharpening his skills in the IPL and more Zimbabwean players breaking into top leagues around the world, Zimbabwe cricket is clearly on an upward trajectory. Exposure to elite competitions is not only improving individual players but also strengthening Zimbabwe’s chances of competing consistently at the highest level.
