Zimbabwe Women High Performance Centre booked their place in the final of the 2026 Kwibuka Women’s T20 Invitational Tournament after producing a dominant all-round performance to overwhelm Malawi Women by a massive 105 runs in Kigali on Thursday.
The emphatic victory confirmed Zimbabwe HPC’s place in Saturday’s championship decider and highlighted the team’s growing confidence and consistency following a strong campaign throughout the tournament.
Having entered the match knowing victory would secure a place in the final, Zimbabwe HPC responded with one of their most complete performances of the competition.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Zimbabwe HPC’s batting lineup launched a relentless assault on the Malawi bowling attack, piling up an imposing 173-7 from their 20 overs.
The innings was built around aggressive stroke play and positive intent from the top order. Runyararo Pasipanodya led the charge with an explosive 38 runs from just 19 deliveries, setting the tone for Zimbabwe’s innings.
She was brilliantly supported by Mitchel Mavunga, who matched the score with a rapid 38 from only 21 balls, while Lorraine Pemhiwa continued her impressive tournament form with a fluent 36 off 23 deliveries.
The trio ensured Zimbabwe HPC maintained a high scoring rate throughout the innings, regularly finding boundaries and putting the Malawi bowlers under immense pressure.
Although Malawi managed to pick up wickets at intervals through Lucky Malino and Vanessa Kanyanda Phiri, who both claimed two wickets, Zimbabwe HPC’s deep batting lineup ensured the momentum never slowed.
The final total of 173 represented one of Zimbabwe HPC’s strongest batting displays of the tournament and left Malawi facing a daunting chase.
If the batting performance was impressive, the bowling display was even more devastating.
Zimbabwe HPC’s bowlers immediately seized control of the contest and never allowed Malawi any opportunity to settle.
The star of the show was Lindokuhle Mabhera, who produced a magnificent spell of fast bowling to claim outstanding figures of 4 wickets for just 13 runs from her four overs.
Mabhera’s accuracy, discipline and ability to strike at crucial moments ripped through the Malawi batting order and effectively ended any hopes of a successful chase.
She received excellent support from Salem Museka, who finished with 2-17, while Kudzai Chigora also chipped in with an economical spell that further tightened Zimbabwe’s grip on the match.
Under constant pressure, Malawi struggled to build partnerships and never came close to matching the required scoring rate.
Lidia Lucia Ndimba top-scored with 16 runs while Sungen Kananji added 14, but the Zimbabwe bowling attack proved too strong as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
The innings eventually ended on 68 all out in just 14.2 overs, sealing a comprehensive 105-run victory for Zimbabwe HPC.
The result represents one of Zimbabwe HPC’s biggest victories of the tournament and sends a strong message ahead of the final.
After bouncing back from earlier setbacks during the competition, the team has shown remarkable resilience, determination and improvement, qualities that have now earned them a place in the championship match.
The victory also highlights the depth within the Zimbabwe HPC squad, with contributions coming from both experienced players and emerging talents throughout the tournament.
With confidence soaring and momentum firmly on their side, Zimbabwe Women High Performance Centre will now turn their attention to Saturday’s final as they seek to complete an impressive campaign by lifting the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Invitational Tournament trophy.
